I remember the exact moment the seed of this band was sown. The imbecilic bloke on the radio was praising the latest identikit boy band and spouting his radio station’s line on how great they were. I hit the off button and decided there and then that if I were to ever listen to anything I wanted to in the car then I’d have to write and record it myself.
A couple of months later Toshk came into being – an alternative to the brainless manufactured pap swamping the airwaves – and something I’d actually want to hear in the car.
The songs were for a while kept private – well, shared between family and friends until one day someone suggested putting the songs out there as “there may be others who share your seemingly bleak outlook.” Undeterred by this back-handed compliment we set about releasing the new material into the world.
So what is the the Toshk sound?
For the unitiated the Toshk sound could be described as pop with a rock edge laced with more than just a subtle hint of irony. Influences are wide and varied – we can’t pin the sound down ourselves. It’s hard to categorise as we’re not trying to be anything, not trying to be anyone, not trying to sound like anyone else. We are who we are and we don’t easily fit into any genre.

The man known as Toshk
And so Toshk sprung forth with the intention of recording something palletable, not for you (you understand?) but specifically for me. The Toshk sounds may not your cup of tea, but if just one of the tracks sticks in your head well that’s all well and good.
Enjoy or otherwise.
