The earliest incarnation of this song was written about friends of ours who’d been down the marriage guidance route and had come to the conclusion that it “was gonna take more than someone calling themselves a bloody doctor to save this bloody marriage!” – hence the chorus. Then as time went on it became skewed somewhat and instead became a track about our favourite fictional timelord. Certain lines lines in the song had a strange kind of resonance with events taking place in the first series of the revamped BBC series of Doctor Who so a subtle rewriting and rearranging ensued. The bridge was originally to sound like the theme tune but rather than face any legal issues it was rejigged to what it is now. The song was re-recorded and hurriedly released under pressure from Doctor Who fans, some of whom thought we were part of the BBC propaganda machine promoting the series. We weren’t.
Still it was nice to see the name Toshiko pop up on Torchwood ;)
